Principal User Interface Designer

Devonshire Recruiting & Consulting Partners is currently seeking a Principal User Interface Designer – a master of the craft of interface design for our local area client.  You must be able to present design rationale to clients and colleagues in a clear manner while welcoming constructive feedback.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be working within our project teams to craft elegant solutions for our diverse base of clientele that ranges from large scale enterprises to seed round startups
  • You understand the basics of an integrated design process with a development team
  • You embrace and employ both current and emerging UI best practices and web standards in all design deliverables
  • You are comfortable serving as a mentor to other designers
  • You are experienced working within a services company and understand all that it entails
  • You are effective in your communication, have a desire to keep learning and growing in your career, and you have the experience and empathy to help guide clients to their best results
  • You are an expert in your design tools (Sketch, Photoshop) and willing to experiment with new ones (Macaw, Invision, UXPin, etc)
  • You have (or want to) read books and learn more about Lean UX, JTBD, or other agile design methodologies

Qualifications:

  • Experience leading other designers
  • Strong, demonstrable portfolio of relevant work
  • Ability to speak in-depth to issues of web typography, iconography, and color theory
  • Demonstrated willingness to have a voice in the design community – to speak at events and cultivate an opinion publicly
  • Candidates will be asked to present their work in a simulated setting in order to give a sense of their presentation style and methodology
  • You’ve led all areas of the prototypical design process, have embraced Lean UX and Agile methodologies, and can speak coherently and convincingly about the value and challenges of atomic design
  • You are nice, confident yet humble, and eschew individual heroism for shared team success
  • You’re over the Big Design Upfront mindset and have seen the light of rapid, iterative design and can bring your relevant experience and insight to help us improve our lean process. Bonus points if you’ve got portfolio examples of code-based mock-ups
  • Clearly you should possess and demonstrate strong design skill and a passion for pushing good to great
  • Must have an understanding and appreciation of usability concerns and best practices, as well as the effect of design on implementation decisions and vice versa
