Devonshire Recruiting & Consulting Partners is currently hiring a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Tax Associate to assist with all areas of the tax function, including compliance, planning, governance, and stakeholder management. This individual’s enthusiasm for continual improvement will enable the tax team to evolve as it supports the growing global organization.

This newly created position offers a unique opportunity to help build the Company’s tax organization from the ground up, formalizing processes and controls to manage internal and external tax risks while ensuring accurate and timely compliance with our U.S. federal, state, local, and international tax reporting obligations.

The Senior Tax Associate will be responsible for providing detailed analysis of the financial information driving the tax returns and structural decisions of the firm. The ideal candidate will seek opportunities to improve and enhance all elements of the tax department’s output. Reporting to the Head of Tax, based in Boston, the Senior Tax Associate will work closely with international tax colleagues and the broader global operations organization.

Responsibilities:

Compliance:

  • Coordinate inputs for the consolidated U.S. federal, state, and local income tax returns by collaborating with global tax and finance colleagues to deliver accurate and timely information for compliance preparation.
  • Partner with external advisors to ensure exceptional quality deliverables are submitted, and the global tax compliance schedule is met and maintained.
  • Manage state and local tax notice receipts, provide analysis, and spearhead timely resolutions, including discussions with tax authority contacts.
  • Assist with migration to a global ERP system (SAP), including detailed reconciliation of global tax attributes at the firm and partner level.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of tax ledger accounts.
  • Manage sales and use tax compliance processes and other indirect business taxes.
  • Monitor current and impending changes to tax regulations and make appropriate updates to policies and strategies.

Governance:

  • Roll out a global tax operating model to support consistently outstanding tax support for the global organization.
  • Establish best practices for organizing tax functions, including the development of a process, risk, and control inventory of the tax function.
  • Document procedures for all tax processes and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Drive continuous improvements across the business unit; actively engage in identifying and recommending new and effective solutions to existing processes.

Planning:

  • Create and analyze tax models to identify optimal positions for various tax projects.
  • Research opportunities for tax-efficient restructurings and business expansion, both in the U.S. and globally.
  • Assist with the review and enhancement of the global transfer pricing model.
  • Approach every situation with an eye for continued improvement.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Prepare internal reporting (quarterly tax statements) and maintain systems to track various tax attributes, enabling quick and efficient reporting to stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Build, present, and maintain tax resource materials for new and existing Partners and Directors.
  • Assist with global tracking of entity-level tax attributes and partner tax basis.
  • Explain and discuss complicated tax matters and their implications with senior stakeholders in the organization.
  • Collaborate with HR and finance on wider initiatives requiring tax support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting; an advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Taxation, LLM, JD with tax focus) and/or CPA strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of tax experience in a role covering corporate and partnership taxation, with exposure to state and local, indirect, and international compliance issues.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and tax accounting for various entity types, including partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations, etc.
  • Broad understanding of international tax structuring, tax accounting, and tax compliance.
  • Ability to communicate complicated tax matters clearly and professionally.
  • Strong relationship and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships and be seen as a great teammate both within and outside of the Tax function.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Excellent writing, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Self-directed and proactive, comfortable executing on multiple projects independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Prior experience within a professional services organization is preferred.
