Job Overview

Devonshire Recruiting & Consulting Partners is seeking a Construction Superintendent to join their team in Southwest Boston. The ideal candidate will oversee, manage, and direct all day-to-day job site activities, complete daily logs, and maintain key activities. They will be familiar with and actively use Procore to support their daily role(s) and be committed to ensuring that all work is performed consistently with the contract documents and will meet or exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, control, and guide all daily activities on the job site.
  • Fill out daily logs, and maintain records of important events (e.g., inspections, concrete pouring, deliveries, etc.), files, and shop drawings, including capturing daily photographs.
  • Familiarize oneself with and actively utilize Procore to aid in daily responsibilities.
  • Capture, store, and upload daily progress photos, highlighting defects that need further attention.
  • Thoroughly review plans, specifications, bulletins, modifications, sketches, ASI’s, RFI’s, etc., and become deeply acquainted with all project documents.
  • Develop a Project Plan and collaborate with PM/PX on creating the Construction Management Plan (“CMP”) and Logistics Plan.
  • Guide field staff according to the Project Plan, CMP, Logistics Plan, and all company policies and procedures.
  • Relay information about issues, events, performance, and progress to the Project Team daily.
  • Report any problems to the Project Team in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • Create and update project schedules using MS Project.
  • Develop and maintain a 3 Week Look Ahead Schedule.
  • Facilitate monthly schedule review meetings.
  • Ensure all work aligns with contract documents and exceeds client expectations.
  • Respond promptly to Field Reports and/or Non-Compliant Reports (“NCR’s”), specifically noting when and how defective items have been fixed.
  • Organize municipal inspections (Federal, State, and Local) and address open items within 48 hours.
  • Maintain logs for all inspections and permits (including subcontractor permits) for ongoing work.
  • Lead and ensure subcontractor participation in safety pre-construction meetings before starting work on the project.
  • Confirm that all subcontractors have site-specific safety plans (including a full set of MSDS sheets) for the project.
  • Review the project daily to verify compliance with all OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality and craftsmanship.
  • Oversee subcontractor and Site Management throughout the Project.
  • Collaborate with the Project Team, Project Executive, and Project Manager on labor forecasts.
  • Prepare material take-offs and order materials.
  • Manage the quality and condition of all material deliveries.
  • Coordinate building layout.
  • Provide oversight and general familiarity with general carpentry tasks (e.g., LGMF, GWB, DFH, ACT, and finish carpentry installation, etc.).
  • Supervise direct labor for LGMF, GWB, DFH, ACT, finish carpentry, and general labor.
  • Manage all construction phases, including documentation and reporting of site activities and progress.
  • Conduct weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and produce meeting minutes (using Procore) and action/BIC lists.
  • Attend Owner-Architect-Contractor (“OAC”) Meetings.
  • Ensure the consistent maintenance and updating of construction documents, including the production and tracking of As-Built Documents.
  • Create Worklists and follow up as needed for timely completion.
  • Review and manage Punchlist for timely completion.
  • Assist PM in preparing Exhibit B’s (Scopes of Work) and be thoroughly familiar with each subcontractor’s scope for proper execution.
  • Review and manage Daily Slip work by subcontractors, including validation of Time & Material (“T&M”) and verification of scope not included in their Exhibit B.
  • Complete and maintain Daily Job Work Orders (“JWO’s”) for any T&M work (in-house or otherwise), including cost coding for respective work.
  • Review submittals for compliance, including verification of field conditions and dimensions.
  • Identify any “out of scope” work items and promptly notify the Project Team.
  • Determine when additional information is needed and submit Requests for Information (“RFI’s”) as necessary.
  • Review subcontractor RFI’s and (i) respond internally when possible; (ii) coordinate/review with the Project Team; (iii) submit RFI; and (iv) make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Support the Project Team with the monthly Forecast (specific items like temporary labor, dumpsters, temporary safety, temporary protection, etc.).
  • Obtain and/or coordinate required permits from local, state, and federal agencies (including hot works permits, street & sidewalk rentals, dumpster permits, etc.).
  • Report any issues or concerns to the Project Team promptly (within 24 hours of becoming aware of a problem). Escalate concerns to the VP of Ops for any issue that may affect project completion (within 48 hours).
  • Always wear the respective Uniform (tan pants and black monogrammed shirt and/or jacket), including appropriate safety equipment.
  • Ensure site coverage when subcontractors are on-site (including off-hours and weekends). If the Superintendent cannot provide coverage, make necessary alternative arrangements.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related field, or equivalent field experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in related construction fields.
  • A current MA Construction Supervisors License (CSL) or the ability to attain one within the first 6 months of employment.
  • An OSHA 30 Certificate.

  • Willingness to wear a uniform consisting of OSHA-approved footwear, hardhat, tan pants, and monogrammed shirts/jackets.
  • Must have a working vehicle and a clean driving record.
  • Computer literacy and comfort with MS Office solutions including MS Word, Excel & Project is required.
  • Knowledgeable of Construction Management software (such as Procore) and willing to learn and utilize Construction Management software in the execution of their daily role(s) & deliverables.
  • Must be computer literate and willing to use laptops, tablets & smart devices in their daily role(s) (including email, and pdf software).
